In-School & After-School Programs

Our team works with K-12 students in schools, youth organizations, and summer camps to cultivate compassion and teach about animal protection, social justice, and environmental preservation.

Expanding our Circle of Compassion

  • Each year, LivingKind directly teaches over 600 students in New York City schools through our part-time instructor and two retired volunteer schoolteachers, allowing us to expand our reach while maintaining program quality. In our 10-lesson Expanding Our Circle of Compassion curriculum, students learn about the welfare and needs of companion, farm, and wild animals; environmental issues affecting urban and marine ecosystems; and ways to help create positive change. Lessons can be adapted for younger learners and enhanced with hands-on, interactive activities to foster deeper engagement and comprehension.

  • Empower your students to become leaders in their own neighborhoods. Our after-school sessions bring the Strategies for Change curriculum to life through hands-on projects and community advocacy. From launching a Youth Changemaker Club to providing customized lessons that fit your specific schedule, we provide the tools for youth to see themselves as part of a global solution. Let’s work together to create a space where students feel heard, valued, and inspired to take action.

  • In the summer, we host two Climate Camps for children ages 5–12 in Indianapolis, continuing our commitment to accessible, inclusive, and impactful environmental education. Thanks to our scholarship program, we are able to offer financial support to more than half of our campers, ensuring that cost was not a barrier for families.

Our Beginners Camp offers a fully bilingual experience, welcoming young participants with inclusive instruction and vibrant, dual-language communication. Campers engage in a rich curriculum blending climate science, hands-on civic engagement, and immersive nature-based learning. Surrounded by woodlands, they deepen their understanding of the importance of all creatures in our eco-system, explore the interconnectedness of all living beings, examine the complexities of the climate crisis, and strengthen their sense of stewardship for the planetβ€”all while fueling their adventures with delicious plant-based meals.

In our Food Camp, we focus on food justice and climate education, exploring topics such as the environmental impact of different foods, carbon footprint reduction, sustainable food systems, and reimagining a just food pyramid/plate. Together, both camps nurture environmental literacy, empower young changemakers, and build community through learning, exploration, and shared purpose.

LivingKind Programs in Action

  • It was so awesome to partner with an organization that cares so deeply for the environment and really collaborate with our students to talk about topics that are relevant to them. What really stood out to us was how [the camp leaders] treated our students with respect and took feedback from them and actually integrated it into the lessons they delivered this summer.

  • "Thank you for teaching me stuff I had no idea about. I wish that more classes would be able to be in this program to know more about the world."

    β€” Ana R.

  • "I learned the importance of campaigning for causes by sending letters to public officials. It is important to fight for causes you believe in."

    β€” Helena P.

  • We definitely saw the students connect to local environmental issues in a new way. We always tell them about environmental issues and sustainability but having them participate in engaging activities and role playing made a huge difference in their understanding and actual level of care that they displayed.

  • β€œI'm very grateful for the time and effort that was made to educate all of us towards a brighter future. Thank you, greatly.”
